How to choose an accent wall

Remember how we were as kids, we dream about the room we want to have when we grow up?

Bedrooms are one of most personal rooms in the house as it showcases one’s personality and place of retreat and It tells a lot about the person’s interests and preferences.

One of the most effective ways to personalize your room is to choose an accent wall. An accent wall is an interior design technique used to create visual interest and focal points within a space, in this case, your bedroom. It is a single wall in your bedroom that is painted or treated differently from other walls to stand out and draw attention. When choosing your side for the accent wall, choose the wall side that speaks to anyone entering the room.

First decide on a color palette for your room. You can start to work on your accent wall by painting it with your favorite color and start from there to derive complementary colors that can work if you mix and match with your room. As an example, this bedroom used the wall for its bed’s headboard as its accent wall. Instead of painting it with just a plain dark green color, it also added some pattern design in a contrasting color. Overall, the bedroom used a color palette of dark green, beige, mustard, and white.

We love how this room played and concentrated on this color palette. Matching the green accent wall are the throw blanket and the throw pillows by the window bench. Having these pops of the same color help create a cohesive look for the bedroom. To complement the rest of the color palette, other pillows were in white, beige, and mustard, while the bed cover and the rug was in white, creating contrast against the wooden floor. The furniture and bed frame is in a light wood color that also matches the color palette.

Lighting plays an important factor in any type of room. This room made use of its natural light through its large windows, and added some pendant lights as lighting accessories above the bedside tables. We recommend keeping bedside decors to a minimum to avoid clutter.  At night time, you can use recessed lights as additional lighting to provide ambient lighting of the room.

Most importantly, your room should be something you would love to retreat to. Trust yourself in finding design balance and with these tips, you can create a space that looks happy and beautiful.
